As the month of June closed there was much joy throughout the country, and some trepidation, as well. The Senate of the United States approved a bi-partisan, comprehensive immigration reform bill! Thanks be to God! While it is far from perfect, it does offer 11 million people a pathway to citizenship. There is much still to be done, however this was a huge step!
Glory Days Camp preparations are in full swing; last minute solicitations for financial help are likely to enable a two-week camp experience, once more. Added to the Rotary grant of $ 2,000, our partners at First Lutheran have committed to a whopping $ 3,000 grant, and St. Andrews has come forth with $ 1,500 being earned by their young people and donated to us. THANKS!!!!
We will be helping other churches this summer by acting as “supply” pastors. Pastor Rick will be preaching at Good Shepherd in North Kingston on July 7th and July 21st at Immanuel in Attleboro, MA. Pastor Santiago and Pastor Rick will be doing supply at First Lutheran in East Greenwich in August. While this is a help to our friends, our compensation will be donated to Gloria Dei, helping us, too!
We had a good experience with “Evangelism” in June and July will have us planning further our efforts to engage all in this primary element of discipleship. While many of us will be taking time off and some will be traveling, we wish you all a wonderful, restful and faithful July.
If you are unable to attend services, let us know and we can send you bulletins, even sermons for services you may have missed. Our readings in Luke remind us of what Jesus’ ministry was and is, and how it invites and challenges us to follow him. It is HOT! And, it IS exciting, too.
